Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Diet Test

Coconut Oil Diet

So I was reading this book where this guy was talking about all the benefits of coconut oil. I guess that he had done a goodly amount of research which led him to the conclusion that cold pressed coconut oil was a super food. I think the actual term he used was “Miracle Substance”.

He said that he started taking it an that after a few days his pants “fell off”. Pretty interesting concept considering the fact that coconut oil is 100% fat as with any oil. Further reading, however, showed that this interesting substance has major health benefits and that it doesn’t act like a traditional fat when ingested in the body. That’s when I decided to give this a try.

It took a WEEK to find this stuff. Just so you know, coconut oil does NOT look like a traditional oil. It only begins to melt at 76 degrees, so it’s a solid most of the time. I ended up finding some at Whole Foods a week later and picked some up to see how this works in the real world.

Recommended serving is 1 tablespoon of coconut oil 1-4 times a day, but most of what I read said go with twice a day, so that’s what I’m doing.

The goal is to keep track of things for about the next two weeks and report results in the comments section of this thread.

Now everything in the body works together, so let me frame up for you the other aspects of how I’m living.

Food:
I’m currently in what I consider my “transitional” stage of diet. I’m struggling to integrate as many organic foods into our family diet as possible. All things considered, I’m realistically only at about 50/50 real food vs. non-food.

Nature's Way Organic Coconut Oil

I am eating a large breakfast and I take the coconut oil either right before breakfast or mixed in with my breakfast.

I’m drinking two cups of “Super Tea” each day. One cup of green tea in the morning before breakfast during my Bible Study time and once before dinner.

I’m eating a large breakfast. Lunch and dinner are more moderate. I’m eating as large of an organic salad as possible before both lunch and dinner. I do the whole “dip your fork in your dressing” thing for organic ranch dressing. With organic Italian or Vinegar and Oil I pour it on…but in strict moderation.

I’m eating at least one organic grapefruit each day. I’m eating at least one organic apple each day.

I’m drinking 1-4 bottles of water. Each bottle is 28 oz. I drink at least two of these before breakfast. Unfortunately, a reverse osmosis water filter is still in the future, so I’m ingesting unacceptable amounts of chlorine and fluoride except when I get the 5-gallon blue bottles and put them on the water cooler. I’m also flooding my skin and lungs with these two toxins while taking a shower, as I have yet to get a shower filter. This might slow down progress.

Fitness:
Exercise lever is VERY moderate right now. I am only really doing 30-40 minutes of yoga first thing in the morning to wake me up.

I’m going to be adding in a good amount of walking in about two weeks, and it’s around then that I’ll call it quits on this initial coconut oil test. Once I start walking 60 mins a day and sweating in the sauna for 15 mins a day, the results will probably be accelerated and won’t apply to this self-study very well.

Other Natural Supplements:
I’m not currently taking any other natural supplements except Vitamin D3 (1000 iu p/day) and Apple Cider Vinegar (1 tsp twice p/day). No weight loss pills, energy pills, energy drinks or anything like that.

My starting weight today is 246 lbs. My body fat according to my scale is 55%. Crazy.

So I got up first thing this morning and weighed myself. I read somewhere that just after waking and immediately after using the bathroom is when you should weigh yourself in order to produce consistent results.

I weighed in at 245 lbs.

One pound in one day. Wow…at this rate I’ll dissapear in only 245 days!

Seriously though, I might have sabotaged myself because yesterday our family had to go to one of my daughter’s friends birthday party, so I had TWO pieces of pizza and one piece of cake. That stuff is NOT on the “organic” list.

Like I said though…I’m in “transition” where food is concerned. It’s not a “instant” type of change, but it is a change.

I did do my Yoga this morning, did drink about 58 oz of water, did take both my apple cider vinegar and Vitamin D3…so we’ll see how it turns out.

Today I was pretty much on track where things were concerned except that I somehow managed to find myself eating pizza again tonight. 2 pieces again. Long story. We’ll see the results tomorrow.

Today’s weigh in tuned out to 245 lbs. Same as yesterday. Like I said, I think adding the two pieces of Little Caesar’s Pizza (and accompanying garlic dipping sauce) after 7:30 in the evening didn’t help.

Today I didn’t have anything “bad” like this. Super Oatmeal for breakfast, two rounds of tea, one grapefruit, one apple. Lunch was salad and Amish chicken breast. Dinner was salad and a small hamburger made form organic, grass fed ground beef.

We’ll see how tomorrow turns out.

I weighed in at 245 lbs again today. Hmmm… I wonder what’s going on there.

Just to bring things in perspective, I weighed 256 lbs at the beginning of this month which is when my wife and I started to switch up our diet and throw away the “trash” that we had stuffed all over our home.

I’ve secured a membership at the local YMCA and am going to start taking the family there in the evenings 5 days a week. Christina and I will walk and the kidzers will hang out in the Child Care Learning Center.

Seeing how nothing ever seems to work out as you’d like it to, I’m also going to guess that consistency on this will be full of gaps…which seems to be normal for people that have busy lives.

One final thing for today…my son had a fever last night, so it didn’t go very well. I couldn’t bring myself to get up before 5:30, so I skipped yoga this morning. It might have some type of impact on tomorrow’s weight check.

Well, I’m still at 245 lbs when I first got up this morning.

It might be that I did not do any yoga yesterday because Buddy was sick. No exercise = no weight loss.

Seems like there is a struggle to get all the pieces to fit. One day I eat trash at one meal, another day I fail to exercise. Seems like you need both.

I did yoga today and have not cheated by eating filth, but I think I’m going to call this initial experiment to a close. Mostly because I fired up our family membership at the YMCA, and I’m going to be bringing everyone a 5 or so nights a week so that I can start adding more exercise into my daily routine. That being the case, I can’t really keep this test phase experiment going as it was suppose to observe results of eating organic cold pressed coconut oil with only a 30-minute yoga session or 30 minute active stretching session p/day 6 days a week.

It seems that you need to combo a little bit more with coconut oil than just eating high-quality foods and 30 minutes of exercise a day. There is a whole host of things that could be standing in the way like needing more exercise, needing to drink water that has been purified of chemicals like chlorine and fluoride, needing to go through a candida yeast cleanse, a liver cleanse, a heavy metal cleanse, or a lymphatic cleanse. Testing these various elements are beyond the scope of this short, impromptu experiment.

My own experience so far has shown that consuming raw, organic, cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil does not produce fast weight loss results when you only pair it with good, nutritious food and 30 minutes of exercise per day. This is not to say that I didn’t glean a whole host of other benefits from this “superfood”, but our goal from this experiment was to achieve weight loss and exceptional results were not seen.

This morning put the nail in the coffin on this one for me. Organic cocoa nut oil sans a goodly amount of exercise is NOT going to help regulate your weight. In fact, if you ignore what you eat, even for a day, you will see a reversal in progress.

Yesterday I ran out of cooked chicken breast in my fridge to add to my lunch so I was faced with the fact that I would just have to eat a large salad alone for lunch.

I said to myself “fine” and proceeded to pack it up and bring it in to work along with an organic apple and an organic grapefruit.

I ate both of the fruits throughout the day, but once lunch rolled around I just found myself frustrated and disheartened by the idea of eating nothing but leaves for lunch. So I went out and got two soft tacos as well. Nice, unhealthy food.

I also found organic ice cream in the health section of the grocery store. I ate spaghetti for dinner (bad) and then had three scoops of chocolate chocolate chip organic ice cream (double bad) later that evening.

This morning I weighted in at 246.5 lbs. I also DID do my yoga that morning.

Just goes to show that a massive commitment to both what you eat and the amount of exercise plays a MAJOR role in your weight loss success. Just adding organic coconut oil to your diet is simply not going to do it.
